Nestled deeply on the slopes of Mount Parnassus in Greece is the famous Temple of Apollo. It was one of the most important and revered religious sites in the ancient Greek world.

It served as a major center for the worship of Apollo, the Greek God of prophecy, music, intellectual pursuits, and the arts. To the ancient Greeks, it was considered the center of the world. It appears to have been built sometime prior to 500 BC.

People used to come to the temple seeking guidance from the Oracles at Delphi, looking for guidance and help with the important decisions they faced in their life.

Carefully and deeply inscribed above the entrance to the temple are the words “Gnothi Seauton,” which interpreted, means “Know Thyself.”

It’s interesting to me that people coming to the temple to seek guidance in the important decisions in their lives would be told first and foremost… and etched in stone… to “know thyself.”

It suggests to all who enter that the real answer to what you should do and where you should go lies in the understanding of your true nature. It suggests that the directions you seek are coded into your Spiritual Identity, and that the journey to know thyself is one that will ultimately illuminate the path you should take.

Those things ultimately determine the life you live.
