As we traverse the Stages of Disengagement, we tend to send behavioral signals. These signals tend to be subtle at first, in the orbit of Emotional Distancing, and get progressively more pronounced as we move outward toward the Crystallization of Discontent.

But the longer you wait to solve for disengagement, the harder it is to solve for, the more expensive it is to solve, and the probability of success of solving for it at all goes way down.

Learning to identify early the behavioral signals people send is critical to building up the ability to quickly recognize when someone is disengaging, what orbit they may be in, and the intervention that might be necessary to get them back on track.

    Let’s talk about behavioral signals!

I have noticed that when employees in our team start to disengage, they typically become more emotionally sensitive to what’s going on. What used to not bother them they may begin to vocalize their irritation with.
